Everything St. Barth

How our ranking works

Businesses listed on Everything St. Barth can take out a paid subscription with Miceli Inc., the site’s publisher. This subscription affects where they appear in lists: partner businesses come before the free listings in their category. Here is how the display order is set, criterion by criterion.

The default order of categories

On every category page, businesses are first shown in the “Default order”. The two criteria below apply one after the other: the second one only breaks the ties left by the first.

  1. The partner subscription. Partner businesses, which pay a monthly subscription, come before the free listings in their category. Between partners in the same category, the one that pays more comes first. Two subscriptions of the same amount give the same rank. This criterion never compares businesses from different categories, and the amount each business pays is never published.
  2. Alphabetical order. Between listings whose subscriptions are of the same amount, as between free listings, the order is alphabetical. The Google rating does not change the default order.

The “Partner” label

Every business that pays a subscription carries the “Partner” label, on its card in lists, in search results and on its listing page; in lists, it links to this page. It signals that its place in lists comes from this subscription.

Changing the order

The sort menu lets you show listings at any time by Google rating (“Top rated”, offered as soon as the category has a displayed rating), alphabetically or by price level. These sorts ignore the subscription: listings with the same rating or the same price level are listed alphabetically.

Search

Site search first ranks results by relevance: a whole word beats the start of a word, and the business name beats its category, type and neighborhood, then its keywords. Between two equally relevant businesses in the same category, the default order applies, subscription included. Outside a single category, the subscription plays no part: equally relevant results are grouped by category.

Neighborhood pages and suggestions

Neighborhood pages and the “You might also like” block follow the same default order, category by category; “You might also like” shows listings from the same neighborhood first.

What a subscription does not buy

A subscription buys neither a rating nor a review. The site collects no reviews: the only ratings shown are those recorded on Google Maps, displayed with their source and the date they were recorded.

The “Editor’s pick” badge

The “Editor’s pick” badge is chosen by the editorial team: it is not for sale and does not come with a subscription. It does not change the order of categories; the “Our favorites” section of the home page shows some of these places, picked by category then alphabetically, regardless of the subscription.

Sponsored news

A partner can, for an additional fee, have a news item published. These announcements carry the “Sponsored” label.

Being listed and removed

Everything St. Barth decides which businesses are published in the directory. A Saint-Barthélemy business that wishes to be listed, or to have its listing corrected, can write to the publisher.

A listing may be removed, in particular if its information proves inaccurate or if the business has closed. The terms specific to the subscription (duration, cancellation, effect on the listing) are given to each business before it subscribes.

When a subscription ends, or if it is not paid, the listing becomes a free listing again: it loses the “Partner” label and its place ahead of the free listings.
